Student Recruitment
Student recruitment begins in the fall of your 6th grade year. We visit several middle schools in the Atlanta area to recruit potential students. We will visit classes, parent nights, and community events.
We are looking for motivated students who want to learn and want to go to college! Does that sound like you?
The summer sessions are exciting with unique and small classes taught by high school juniors and seniors and college students from all over the world. The Breakthrough Atlanta spirit continues with the school year program that runs from October to May.
Please read through the following information with your family. Breakthrough Atlanta is a challenging and exciting program. Get ready to work hard and have fun!
Student Application
The application is on line and copies are provided to several Atlanta Metro area middle schools. Students also submit teacher recommendations, essay questions, standardized test scores and reports cards. These documents are used to compare future scores and grades (which usually improve!) after the first and second summers.
The Student and Family Commitment
Students and their families must have a high level of commitment to the Breakthrough Atlanta summer session.
When the summer starts, families must ensure that their children attend the program every day. This includes parents/guardians making certain that their children will either ride the bus or get dropped off by an adult at Breakthrough Atlanta.
In addition to student attendance, parents/guardians themselves will have to attend conferences with faculty in the middle of the summer session. Parents/guardians are also expected to attend the Family Reunion. Lastly, if parents/guardians wish to provide an extra level of commitment, they may volunteer to help on field trips and special days.
The School Year Program (SYP) expects the same commitment. Students and volunteers work on Saturdays to reinforce the concepts taught in school and participate in a variety of enrichment activities.
