Students & Parents

For Parents

At Breakthrough Atlanta, we believe family support is very important to ensure a child's academic success. We understand that every family is unique, with busy schedules and dozens of obligations every day.

Many more families aren't sure exactly how to provide the support to help their child succeed. That's why we work closely with each family and child.

The foundation for family support at Breakthrough Atlanta is communication. Every family may not be able to, say, help their child with their homework, but we need families to communicate with us as openly and honestly as possible. That means we need for you attend parent/teacher conferences to discuss your child's progress, but we will do our best to schedule times that are as convenient for you as possible.

We will ask for your support in ensuring that your child attends the program every day and does his or her homework consistently. There are also a few events that parents must attend:

  • Student Orientation
  • Family Reunion
  • Any conference scheduled by one of the directors

In return, we pledge to communicate constantly with you and your child. We will send newsletters and letters home, make check-in calls, and always make ourselves available when you need to check on your child's progress.

We've also put together a list of resources that may help you enrich your child's academic experience.

Daily attendance at Breakthrough Atlanta during the summer is mandatory, except in cases of serious illness. The summer program is very short and students who miss days will fall behind quickly. If your family is planning an extended vacation during the Breakthrough dates, you should not apply to the program. During the school year program, we may make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

We are flexible. If a legitimate emergency causes an absence, we will certainly understand. However, our courses are rigorous, so several absences can lead to a severe disadvantage. The commitment made to Breakthrough Atlanta by the students and their families is not one to be taken lightly.
