Our Programs
Breakthrough Atlanta's programs help students develop the academic skills and study habits to enroll and succeed in college-and, ultimately, in life. Students apply and make a six-year, year-round commitment to participate in academically intense programs-while having fun and learning the skills that give them an edge.
Classes are taught by carefully selected high school and college students from across the country, who commit for eight weeks, full-time, in the summer, or for two semesters, part-time, during the school year.
By investing heavily in their training and support, we create a supply of diverse and talented future leaders for the education field.
Summer Program
Breakthrough's summer program is both fun and academically rigorous. Classes in math, language arts, science, and social studies offer the chance to read great literature, solve challenging word problems, and tackle enticing subjects like History and Science. Students receive five hours of academic instruction daily and complete two hours of homework each night. They are supported by small classes, an advisory system, and active parent involvement. Extracurricular activities such as debate and dance and horizon-expanding special events like College Day and Future Week are also a part of the program.
School-Year Program
Breakthrough's school-year program continues the investment in students' educational success. Two Saturdays a month, students attend the School Year Program, focusing on the academic subjects that are most challenging for them. They also attend enrichment classes characterized by small class sizes, inspired instruction, and supportive peers. Students also gather for special activities, such as college visits, community service, and museum trips.
The Power of Students Teaching Students
Breakthrough Atlanta teacher interns are academically talented college students from around the country selected through a competitive application process. Under the guidance of experienced professional educators (mentor teachers), the teacher interns assume primary teaching responsibilities during the program.
