Student Testimonials

"Two years ago, Breakthrough became a very intricate component in helping me to navigate the college application process. I attended a Workshop with admissions representatives from Cornell University, Columbia University, Bryn Mawr College, and Barnard College; which were all my top choices. Attending the session twice, through the intimate conversations with the representatives I was able to learn lots more about the institutions and develop very close relationships with each of the representatives.

"Later, when I saw the Cornell representative at another event, he immediately remembered me and said, 'Briana, from Atlanta, with Breakthrough.'

"I believe that this session helped my application stand out from the thousands of other applicants and made me an admitted student at Cornell University and Bryn Mawr College."

- Briana Fullwood, Breakthrough Atlanta Alumni, Cornell University Class of 2015

"At Breakthrough, you really feel like you are part of something special. The spirit of everyone around you fosters an environment of expectations that is so fundamental to ones success. These high expectations have guided me along my path to the Ivy League"

- Jamal Hill, Brown University (Breakthrough Atlanta Teacher Intern and Alumnus)

"A breakthrough can be defined as the act of breaking through an obstacle. But to put it simply, a breakthrough is a change of thought. My journey with Breakthrough Atlanta began seven long summers ago. I was a young, eager rising seventh grader with goals in mind and ideas to share with others. Breakthrough provided me with a solid foundation, a strong support system for success in middle school and high school, and it has remained with me now as a college student at Brown University.

"During my two summers here, I recall being greeted with cheers and smiles, songs and dances. Perhaps most of all, I remember the attitude of high expectations that was instilled in me at the beginning of this journey.

"My teachers always challenged me to live up to my potential both academically and socially. The overall atmosphere of the program affirmed my sense of making a difference and not being afraid to serve as a role model for others. "
