Middle school is one of the highest-risk periods in a student's life. That's why middle school is such a critical time in determining a student's future academic trajectory. It doesn't get easier in high school.
Breakthrough Atlanta recruits current 6th and 7th grade students from the Atlanta public schools. Student applicants undergo a rigorous selection process, which includes essays, teacher recommendations, and a personal interview. Teachers, guidance counselors, and principals also play an important role in the selection process.

During this critical six-year period, Breakthrough Atlanta helps prepare dedicated students for the challenges ahead-regardless of their socio-economic background.
Breakthrough Atlanta seeks a diverse group of students whose opportunities could be expanded by our program. We look for students who earn A or B averages in their schools, but will also consider students with a minimum C average. We want students who will commit to the program for six years, and also who demonstrate factors that limit their opportunities.
The common ingredient in all Breakthrough Atlanta students is that they share the desire to learn, and want to be the best students that they can be.
We've put these resources together to help parents and their kids work together to make the most of all that Breakthrough Atlanta has to offer. Why not start by applying today?

Daily attendance at Breakthrough Atlanta during the summer is mandatory, except in cases of serious illness. The summer program is very short and students who miss days will fall behind quickly. If your family is planning an extended vacation during the Breakthrough dates, you should not apply to the program. During the school year program, we may make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
We are flexible. If a legitimate emergency causes an absence, we will certainly understand. However, our courses are rigorous, so several absences can lead to a severe disadvantage. The commitment made to Breakthrough Atlanta by the students and their families is not one to be taken lightly.
